NZ Post Domestic and Express
A dedicated label printer should be used for these services. Label printers produce tickets much faster and use our peel and stick labels, making them more effective for daily use and bulk printing. Most label printer models that fit a 100mm-wide label will work. Our standard labels are 100x174mm in dimensions. Generally, a 203dpi label print will be sufficient for Domestic labeling.
NZ Post International
Labels for NZ Post International may vary. Some services work best with A4 printers. Other services can use our standard 100x174mm label (these services will usually have thermal in the name). If you wish to use a label printer, ask your account manager to enable thermal service options for you. It is recommended to use a 305dpi label printer for international labels as this will legibly print the fine text on the International labels.
Purchasing a new printer
When purchasing a label printer, we recommend contacting either Brother or SATO as they will be able to recommend a printer model for you. Be sure to mention that you are an NZ Post customer in order to access special pricing, installation, and support.
Make sure to consider the label size requirement you will be using on eShip.
You will also want to ensure that you are buying a printer and label that supports Thermal Transfer. Learn more about Thermal Transfer here.
Make sure the printer works with Windows 10 and/or MacOS and can be connected by USB. eShip also supports networked printers, however, this requires additional networking setup from your end.

If your Datamax printer is second-hand or was obtained via another courier company, it may not be compatible with eShip.
Higher-volume printing
For high-volume label production, it is recommended to use an industrial label printer that can handle high volumes and at a higher printing speed. Here are some recommendations:
Recommended labels and paper

CPTH38ND is a weather-resistant thermal transfer sticker with perforated sections that allow a courier or recipient to remove the tracking barcode from the parcel. Label stock that uses the same format can be purchased elsewhere. The label dimensions are 100x174mm.
- A5 Paper (Standard desktop printer)
- CPTKTA5ND Online Label A5 Sheet No DC Courier Online Label A5 Sheet No DC
NZ Post labels are typically printed on A5 paper. Some service types can be printed on label printer stock. These services will usually have (thermal) in the name.
